In 1997, decades after the demise of passenger cruising on the Great Lakes, German cruise line Hapag-Lloyd brought their
420-passenger cruise ship MV Columbus, filled primarily with German travelers, to sail the Great Lakes. Fascinated by the
idea of revitalizing this once flourishing cruise market, travel industry veterans Tom Conlin and his son Chris, formed the
Great Lakes Cruise Company the following year. By fall 1999, the Great Lakes Cruise Company operated the first American
charter of the MV Columbus. With the success of their first season, GLCC chartered both MV Columbus and the 90-passenger
French luxury yacht Le Levant the following three years.
Great Lakes Cruise Company,
More Great Lakes Cruises!
When we first started our company in 1966, no one was offering overnight cruises on a small ship. In fact, the phrase "small
ship cruising" had not yet been coined. In order to experience a small ship cruise, you had to own your own yacht or have a
friend who did. Luther Blount owned such a yacht and he had a lot of friends! More guests started requesting that he find
other interesting places to take them. Fortunately, he had the vision and the ability to build this hobby into a thriving
cruise business. What started first as family sword fishing vacations to New England and the Canadian Maritimes has developed
into one of the most renowned niche cruise companies that has defined the industry.
With Luther’s shipbuilding background and love of sailing, he combined the knowledge of a seasoned yachtsman with the
engineering skills of a naval architect to construct a vessel that would be able to navigate shallow coastal waters and
under the low bridges of the Erie Canal. He developed a retractable pilot house that lowers into the second deck to allow
passage under these low bridges or low-hanging brush found along tropical rivers. He developed a shallow draft feature that
allows for not only cruising in shallow depths, but for landing right up on sandy beaches! Always customer-oriented, he
developed a bow ramp that eliminates the need for disembarking via tender.
By simply responding to customers’ requests, ACCL’s business grew and, in the process, single-handedly defined the small ship
cruising niche. Other companies came along and attempted to copy ACCL. But they cannot imitate the unique ship designs nor the
phenomenon of small ship cruising that is synonymous with the Blount family name.
Today, ACCL has a fleet of three specially designed ships that feature Luther’s patented designs. With many itineraries to
choose from each year, passengers keep coming back to repeat the ACCL experience.
Our ships are cozy and comfortable with an informal atmosphere evident in our BYOB policy and relaxed dress code. Our
itineraries are specially tailored to the active, inquisitive and eco-conscious audience. We choose our crew, chefs, guest
lecturers, outside entertainment, and land tours carefully to provide a top-notch vacation. We hope you will find ACCL to
be as special as we do.
Like Henry Hudson did hundreds of years ago, ACCL Capt. Luther Blount discovered the magnificence of the Hudson River when he
was a young mariner. Over the years, Capt. Blount vowed to share the natural beauty of this coastline with friends and
passengers on his cruise ships, and perfected this itinerary to give you the same experience. Join fellow ACCL passengers
on this special cruise for six glorious days from Long Island Sound up the Hudson during the traditionally spectacular autumn
foliage season.
Buffalo/Great Lakes/Quebec
Cruise the shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway on ACCL's newest itinerary offering a quiet look at lakeside
communities and a front row seat at three of Canada's most magnificent cities.
Canals of America/Finger Lakes
Explore the historic inland waterways of this Upstate New York region on ACCL's Niagara Prince, one of the few overnight
cruising vessels in the world agile enough to pass under the low bridges and narrow passages of the Erie Canal. This cruise
will feature the Wine Country of New York's Finger Lakes region as well as the history of the Erie Canal., A guest lecturer
will be on board.
Chicago/Great Lakes/Buffalo
This tour navigates the Great Lakes of Michigan, Huron and Erie, exploring both the majestic and the serene. Simply a good
old-fashioned summer boating vacation, ACCL style.
Chicago/Great Lakes/Warren
This is arguably one of the most amazing itineraries, offering striking water views of several major cities, including Chicago
and New York, and contrasting smooth water cruising along historic waterways of America, including the Great Lakes, Erie
Canal and Hudson River.
Erie Canal/Fall Foliage
This cruise features fall foliage in all its glory along the waterways that make up this itinerary. The stunning tapestry of
colour is breathtaking. The perspective of the flora from the deck of a small ship is unmatched.
Erie Canal/Saguenay
This is the original itinerary of American Canadian Caribbean Line. Capt. Luther Blount discovered this route over 35 years
ago, and built a ship specifically designed to traverse the low locks and bridges of the Erie Canal. Why do we keep repeating
this itinerary over and over again? Because the demand for this itinerary, our classic adventure, never ceases and we've got
the only overnight cruising vessels that can sail the entire length of the Erie Canal! Be part of ACCL's heritage on this
exceptional cruise.
Lake Michigan Getaway
Circumnavigating Lake Michigan gives one the opportunity to truly explore the offerings of the only Great Lake entirely in the

of variety and interest.
Lake Superior Grande Tour

can be enjoyed today, and what better way than by cruising with ACCL on a small ship. This trip highlights all the wild
splendour, rugged wilderness scenery, and sheer majesty of the Great Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world.
Experience the culture of the native Indian tribes and rich maritime history of this northern U.S.
